Fanfiction Translator

Translate Fanfiction Without Butchering Canon Names

Generic translation does not know which fandom it is reading. A surname becomes a common noun, a nickname becomes a different character, and the fic turns into a puzzle. Give the project its source works first, so canon context reaches the translation.

Canon
A Fanfiction project linked to two source works with a character identified as canon.

The problem

The raw knows the fandom. Ordinary MTL does not.

Fanfic leans on shared context: surnames, aliases, techniques, locations, and jokes that only make sense when a name is recognized as canon. Literal translation strips that context away. Similar entities blur together, while a familiar name can reappear under a new spelling a few paragraphs later.

Readers compensate with a ritual: run the raw through MTL, keep a list of corrections, then find and replace the same mistakes chapter after chapter. It works, but it makes reading a fic feel like maintaining a spreadsheet.

A fanfiction-aware project starts one step earlier. It knows which source works belong to the fic before it extracts names and terms.

How it works

Put canon context into the project

  1. 01

    Select the source works

Create a Fanfiction project and choose at least one source work. For a crossover, add multiple works to the same project.

  2. 02

    Recognize what belongs to canon

Entity extraction checks characters, terms, and locations against the context of your selected works. Canon matches prefer established English or romanized names; original characters receive standard translation or romanization treatment.

  3. 03

    Review once, carry it forward

When entity review is enabled, review and edit entries like any other project, with canon and original indicated. The glossary entries relevant to each chapter are applied automatically at translation time, and stored gender on character entries guides pronoun choice.

The fanfiction entity review screen shows canon and original badges.

Want another look at one entity? Select it and run Deep Check to re-check its canon match. Each check uses one Action credit, and you choose whether to accept the suggested name and classification.

Source works

Choose from 220+ fandoms

The source-work list spans anime and manga, games, and novels. Recognizable choices include Naruto and One Piece, Genshin Impact and Elden Ring, plus Harry Potter and Lord of the Mysteries. Pick the work or combination that gives your fic the right canon frame.

Bring your own fic

A translator, not a fanfiction host

YourTL does not host fanfiction or publish your project as a public story page. Bring text you can access by public chapter URL, pasted raw text, or TXT or EPUB upload. If a platform keeps the chapter behind a login or another access challenge, URL import may fail; paste or upload the text instead.

Fanfiction Translator FAQ

Before you bring the next raw

Can it translate Chinese, Japanese, and Korean fanfiction?
Yes. Chinese, Japanese, and Korean are the core source languages. You can translate them into English, Spanish, French, or Arabic.
How does it know canon names?
You select the source works for the project. Those works give entity extraction the fandom context it needs to identify canon characters, terms, and locations and prefer their established English or romanized names.
Does it handle crossovers?
Yes. A Fanfiction project can include more than one source work, so entity extraction can use canon context from each selected work.
What about original characters?
Entities that do not match the selected canon are marked as original and receive the standard translation or romanization treatment. You can review and edit them before translation when entity review is enabled.
Is it free to try?
Yes. The Free tier includes 20 lifetime Standard translations, or a daily allowance through the Discord community for eligible accounts that link Discord, join the community, and verify membership.
